Gamblers spook Phantoms 4-3

Defenseman Mason Lohrei buried the game-winner to lead the Green Bay Gamblers to a 4-3 victory over the Youngstown Phantoms Thursday night.

 

The Gamblers opened the game with goals from Greg Spitznagel and Jake Schmaltz before the Phantoms' Georgii Merkulov cut the lead in half with a tally with less than two minutes remaining in the first period. After the Phantoms tied the game up in the second period, Jarod Crespo scored his first goal of the season with less than six minutes remaining. The Phantoms would not go away, tying the game up on a Bradley Marek goal. A few minutes later, it was Lohrei who took passes from Schmaltz and Jackson Kunz to give the Gamblers the victory. Goalie Matt Davis saved 31 of the 34 shots he faced.

 

The two teams meet again at the Resch Center on Saturday night. Tobin Meyer will have the call on 104.1 WRLU and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com beginning at 7 p.m.
