Gibraltar

Even Gibraltar head girls’ basketball coach Devin Thomas finds it hard to believe that their regional semi-final loss to Gillett was one of the final high school athletic events on the peninsula for almost seven months. Shortly after the defeat, the pandemic took hold in the state and canceled the spring sports season. Gibraltar Secondary School students will not be in the building for classes until January 11th, but the district’s board of education recently approved the start of the winter sports season after moving its fall slate to the alternative spring schedule. In the meantime, Thomas said they did much of their work virtually.

In-person practices started on Monday with plenty of new protocols in place according to Thomas.

Gibraltar will play its first game at home against Algoma on December 1st. You can listen to the rest of the interview with Coach Thomas online at NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com.
