Wisconsin, Marquette both tip-off seasons this week

The University of Wisconsin Badgers and Marquette University men’s basketball teams will tip-off their season on Wednesday night.

The Badgers are preseason-ranked at #7 in the Nation and look to be a force especially for the season opener against Eastern Illinois. Wisconsin is entering the 2020-21 season after a hot 8-game win streak to finish last year before it was cut short due to COVID-19. The Badgers finished the 2019-20 season in a three-way-tie for first place and were named the #1 seed in the Big Ten Tournament. Wisconsin will be bringing back key players like D’Mitrik Trice, Micah Potter and preseason All-Big Ten team nominee Nate Reuvers. Eastern Illinois comes into this matchup after finishing their 2019-20 season in the middle of the pack among other schools in the Ohio Valley Conference. Wisconsin will host the game at the Kohl Center for a 9:00 p.m. tip-off  on Wednesday.

The Golden Eagles are coming into the 2020-21 season projected to finish sixth in the Big East Conference according to espn.com. Marquette will have a different look this season without former two-time All-American Markus Howard who led the nation in scoring last year and finished as the program's leading scorer. Marquette will bring in Ohio State transfer DJ Carton who will assume Howard’s former role. Marquette will also introduce McDonald’s All-American Dawson Garcia, who is a 6’11” power forward that is tabbed as the preseason Freshman of the Year in the Big East. Head coach Steve Wojciechowski is entering his seventh season at the helm of the basketball program. His Golden Eagles’ will face Arkansas-Pine Bluff University for the first game of the season. Pine Bluff finished at the bottom of the Southwestern Athletic Conference last season and only won four games total. Marquette tips-off their season at the Fiserv Forum on Wednesday at 9:00 p.m.
