Marquette drops third straight conference loss

The Marquette Golden Eagles mens’ basketball team took a digger to the fifth ranked Villanova Wildcats on Wednesday night, 85-68.

The Golden Eagles were in search of collecting their third top-ten ranked opponent win after defeating then-No. 4 Wisconsin and then-No. 9 Creighton earlier in December. Marquette and Villanova traded baskets early on but the Wildcats developed a six-point lead going into halftime, 36-30. Second half play saw Villanova capitalize on 18-points off of 17 Marquette turnovers. Jamal Cain dropped 15 points to lead Marquette while Villanova only allowed freshman Dawson Garcia to add nine points throughout the whole game. The Wildcats were led by Collin Gillespie who recorded 22 points to lead all scoring. Marquette dropped to 5-5 on the season and will play a conference matchup against Georgetown on Saturday, January 2nd, 2021.
