Phoenix women start tournament play, Badgers in action

There is still plenty of college basketball to be enjoyed before the NCAA Tournaments for men's and women's basketball begins later this month.

Locally, the Green Bay Phoenix women's basketball team will look to climb to the Horizon League mountaintop for the first time in two years when it begins its tournament run on Tuesday night against Cleveland State. A win would put them in their 26th consecutive Horizon League semifinal. The Phoenix split their matchups against the Vikings on the road earlier this season. Caitlyn Hibner scored 22 points to kick off the weekend set in Cleveland with a 71-62 win before the Vikings came back in the Saturday matchup and won 60-48. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.

In men's basketball, the Wisconsin Badgers look to rebound from their weekend loss to Illinois Tuesday night with a game in West Lafayette against the Purdue Boilermakers.  The Boilermakers enter the contest two spots ahead of the Badgers in the polls after winning four of their last six games including a 73-52 win over Penn State their last time out. The Badgers have lost four of their last six, including Saturday's 74-69 loss to Illinois. The tip is set for 8 p.m.

Entering their Tuesday night matchup on a similar skid are the Marquette Golden Eagles. The team could not build momentum from its 83-70 road win against North Carolina when it traveled to face Connecticut and lost 80-62. They face a DePaul team that beat the Golden Eagles 68-61 on January 23rd and one of just three wins in 2021 for the Blue Demons. The tip is set for 8 p.m.
