Fouls sink Badgers against Iowa

Officiating was a hot topic after Wisconsin fell to Iowa 77-73 Sunday afternoon in Iowa City.

Badgers head coach John Gard fumed about the Flagrant 1 called on Brad Davison in the final 30 seconds of a tight ball-game between the two teams with tournament seeding implications on the line for both squads. The officials went to the monitor several times during the game, including for that particular play where Davison and Iowa's Keegan Murray.

The officiating overshadowed what was otherwise a marquee matchup in the Big Ten. Player of the Year candidate Luke Garza registered 21 points and 16 rebounds for the victorious Hawkeyes while the Badgers were led by Micah Potter's 23 points.

The Badgers head into the Big Ten Tournament as the sixth seed as they wait to face No. 11 Penn State or No. 14 Nebraska. The winner Thursday faces third-seeded Iowa on Friday. They have lost five of their last six.

The state's other major conference team, Marquette, is finishing strong heading into their Big East Conference Tournament. They have won four of their last five, including a 66-59 decision against Xavier on Saturday. The Golden Eagles will face eighth-seeded Georgetown in the quarterfinals at 2 p.m. Wednesday.
