For the second season in a row, the Wisconsin Badgers Women’s Hockey team will stand alone as college hockey’s women’s national champion. Even though this is their second title in three seasons, the Badgers are still repeat champions. The Badgers had to wait an extra year after last year’s postseason tournament got cancelled.
Saturday’s NCAA final against top seeded Northeastern University was a slow game offensively until the very end. The Badgers won 2-1 in overtime on a Daryl Watts goal where she banked in the shot off of a Huskies defenseman. The other Badgers goal was scored by Makenna Webster on a rebound. The Badgers came into the tournament a two seed, and will leave with their sixth national title. Which will tie University of Minnesota for most ever.
