Packers keep King

With a free-agent market that started out rich with veteran cornerbacks, the Packers spinning wheel stopped on a familiar face, Kevin King. The 33rd overall selection of the 2017 NFL draft signed a 1 year, $6 million contract. The move came as a surprise to many, even after the market had significantly trimmed down. King, a four-year veteran, has had his share of battles with injuries, having missed 23 of a possible 64 career games. King will reunite with the rest of the starters in the secondary who also return. It is to be determined what sort of competition King will get for the starter role after the free-agency and draft periods.

In General Manager Brian Gutekunst’s first three off-seasons on the job, he has been known to cash in more during the free-agency period than Green Bay had in recent memory. Though this off-season, he has spent money keeping Packers players in house. The departure was deemed likely after the NFC title game loss to Tampa Bay, but King will get his revenge shot along with the rest of the team. Fans will be hoping King can produce like he did in 2019, when he played in 15 games and secured five of his six career interceptions.
