Sevastopol alum captures national titles

A 2018 Sevastopol High School alum has solidified his place as one of the country’s best swimmers. Max McHugh collected his second national championship on Saturday after setting the Gophers school record in the 200 breaststroke. McHugh finished with a time of 1:49:02. The Junior also won the 100 breaststroke on Friday. The national championship on Friday was the first in swimming for the Gophers since 1964.

McHugh won the Big Ten Championships in the 100 breaststroke last season, but was unable to go for the gold nationally when the championships were called off. McHugh was an All-American in 2019 in the 100 and 200 breaststroke, but now gets to be called a champion.
