Southern Door School District had a lot to be proud of this weekend with its youth in athletics.

On the hardwood, the Eagles' eighth-grade boys' basketball team won the small-school state championship. Held at Denmark, the Eagles beat Mineral Point 60-44 in the championship game after previously defeating Cedar Grove-Belgium 53-42, New Glarus 80-47, Cuba City 58-33, Cadott 62-29, and Valders 54-41.

In the pool, second-grader Aiden Schley earned four individual and a pair of relay state titles as part of the Door County YMCA Swim Team competition at state. Schley captured individual titles in the 25 yard and 50-yard breaststroke, 25-yard butterfly, and 50-yard backstroke.
