Brewers win opening day thriller

For the first time in over a year, the Milwaukee Brewers welcomed a crowd back into their stadium, and the crowd of over twelve-thousand was delighted to a dramatic finish. Their opponent, the Minnesota Twins, jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third inning. One of the runs came on a wild pitch by starting pitcher Brandon Woodruff. In the bottom of the third, Kolten Wong would get the Brewers first run of the season when he was walked home. The Twins would give up one run in the ensuing inning. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Christian Yelich would score for the Brewers on an Omar Narvaez single to make the game 3-2. The Twins lead extended again in the top of the seventh to 5-2 which would be almost enough to put the game out of reach.

Milwaukee stormed back in the bottom of the ninth when Christian Yelich would come through in crunch time with an RBI single that would bring Kolten Wong home for his second run of the day, making the score 5-3. Travis Shaw would have the play of the day with a two-rbi double that would bring across Keston Hiura and Christian Yelich to tie the game at five and send it to extra innings. In the bottom of the tenth inning, Orlando Arcia would put the ball in play and reach on a fielder’s choice, and also score Lorenzo Cain for the winning run. The final score would be 6-5.

Milwaukee is 1-0 on the season and will face the Minnesota Twins on Saturday at 6:10 PM.
