Soccer preview: Sturgeon Bay, Gibraltar/Sevastopol open playoffs on 96.7 WBDK

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers will go for a second straight state title when they host Gibraltar/Sevastopol in WIAA Alternative Fall State Tournament play Thursday.

The Clippers enter the matchup 6-3 with all three losses coming against team battling for position in the Division 1 Tournament. One of those wins came against the Vikineers in a 4-1 decision in Institute. That was also the last time the Vikineers hit the pitch in its limited season. It lost to Manitowoc Lincoln 4-1 on April 17th after beating Bowler/Gresham 3-1 earlier this week. The Clippers won the state tournament in 2019 while the Vikineers lost to Kohler 7-0 in its WIAA Regional opener that year just two weeks after handing Sturgeon Bay its first conference loss in almost 30 games.

Bryan Mazur and Tim Kowols will have the call on 96.7 WBDK beginning at 6:30 p.m. followed by the opening touch at 7:00 p.m. The game will also be streamed worldwide at NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com

In girls' soccer action, Luxemburg-Casco visits Wrightstown, and Kewaunee hosts NEW Lutheran at 4:30 p.m. Gibraltar/Sevastopol plays at home against Sheboygan Falls at 6 p.m. and Sturgeon Bay heads to New Holstein for a 7 p.m. opening touch.
