Sturgeon Bay softball wins playoff opener

There will be more softball to be played for the Sturgeon Bay Clippers after topping Gillett/Suring in the opening round of the WIAA Playoffs on Wednesday at their home park 7-4.

Both teams traded runs in the first inning and Gillett/Suring took 2-1 lead in the fourth before the Clippers responded with four runs in the bottom half of the inning to take control of the game for good in the bottom half of the inning. The Clippers would tack on a pair of runs in the sixth inning and stop a Gillett/Suring rally in the top half of the seventh to secure the win.

The Clippers will have the weekend off before facing top-seeded Kewaunee on the road.

The Storm will play one more tune-up before the playoffs when they play Luxemburg-Casco at home beginning at 4:30 p.m.
