Three local teams are moving onto the next round of the WIAA playoffs to highlight local baseball action on Thursday.
in high school baseball action, Gibraltar toppled Roncalli 8-1, Luxemburg-Casco shutout Sturgeon Bay 9-0, Kewaunee blew out Algoma 15-3, and Sevastopol saw its season end in a 10-0 loss to Manitowoc Lutheran in six innings. The next round will now feature the Vikings and the Storm meeting up in Kewaunee, Southern Door hosting either Mishicot or Valders, and the Spartans battling top-seeded Denmark.
Northwoods League action saw the Green Bay Booyah jump out to a 4-0 lead but give up three runs in the top of the 13th inning to call 8-5 to the Lakeshore Chinooks. They will face the Chinooks on the road on Friday.
The Milwaukee Brewers unloaded on the Cincinnati Reds' bullpen with six unanswered runs to take the finale 7-2. Daniel Voegelbach homered in the win. They now come home for a weekend set against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The first game is slated for 7:10 p.m.
