The Green Bay Packers' first practice with the New York Jets featured some new faces on the field.
General Manager Brian Gutekunst announced prior to practice that they signed quarterback Jake Dolegala while also releasing cornerback Stanford Samuels. It is his second stint with the team this summer after signing on with the Packers for mini-camp while Aaron Rodgers was out. The Central Connecticut State product set school records for career passing yards and touchdowns, but he is in camp primarily to split reps with Rodgers and Kurt Benkert while Jordan Love nurses an injured shoulder.
Wednesday marked the first of two practices against the New York Jets ahead of their preseason matchup on Saturday afternoon. The Jets' defense challenged the Packers offense during their 11-on-11 with different pressures and looks. Rodgers and Benkert were able to make some nice passes to their receivers, but also had periods where there may have been some communication issues with receivers. The two teams also ran some position drills together before going back to some more 11-on-11 work. The Jets joined the Packers on Ray Nitschke Field after getting some initial work done on the other side of the Don Hutson Center at Clark Hinkle Field.
The two teams will have a public practice again on Thursday at 10:25 a.m. It is also the last scheduled public practice of training camp.
It may not look like it, but Aaron Rodgers would connect with Valdes-Scantling for a long TD on this play. #packers #jets pic.twitter.com/ACBnJkB7ZS
