2021 champions crowned at The Hill Raceway

A full moon along with a warm and muggy night greeted race fans on the final point night of the season. The theatrics kicked off in the first feature of the evening as the Unified Dirt Street Stock feature took to the track. Kody LaViolette paced the opening laps as “Scooter” Scott Iverson and “The Hammer” Dave DeGrave gave chase. Iverson was able to slip by for the top spot on lap 12 but his reign up front didn’t last long as DeGrave came storming by on the 15th lap.

Title contender Shanon Guelette made his presence felt, racing to the third, closing on the leaders. On the final lap Guelette dove to the inside of DeGrave as Iverson went to the outside. The trio stayed 3-wide until turn 3 when they began to bounce off each other. When the checkers fell is what Iverson crossing the finish line first to excitement of the hometown crowd. DeGrave placed second, Guelette was third. With a fourth place finish Troy Muench collected his second Street Stock title. Geno Sternard completed the top five.

An opening lap crash in the Stock Car main event saw point leader Brett Wenzel receive damage to his radiator. Once the race resumed Wenzel stayed out to complete one lap and secure his second championship in a row. Zach Spangenberg led the field as Dave Bouche and Jeff Kropp gave chase. Kropp who came through the last chance qualifier was able to work his way to second and began to chase down Spangenberg. On lap 11 Spangenberg lost the handle on his machine. This handed the top spot to Kropp. Kropp was able to outlast the competition to score his first ever feature win at the Hill. Bouche took second at the pay window, Rob Waechter Jr was third, Jeremy Anschutz placed fourth after starting in row 8 and Josh Mroczkowski rounded out the top five.

In Sport Mod action it was Jeff “Pepe” Vlies racing around “Rowdy” Randy Theys on lap 6 for the lead. Vlies dominated the remainder of the event for his 2nd win of the season. It was an up and down night for the point leader Randy LeMieux Jr as he was caught up a wreck in his qualifier. LeMieux had to start 15th on the grid and place 12th or better to hold off Cody Rass in the title chase. Rass did all he could, coming home with a second place, Theys had his best run of the season to take third, LeMieux rallied late to take fourth and collect the championship. Bernie Reinhardt completed the top five.

“The Jackhammer” Josh Lambert jumped to the lead on the opening lap of the Modified feature as Todd Dart and point leader Greg Gretz gave chase. A caution with 5 laps remaining set up a dash to the checkers. Dart went to work down low with Lambert up top. Several times Dart pulled even for the lead but couldn’t keep the momentum to make the pass, as Lambert went on to score the win. Dart had to settle for the runner up position. A third place finish claimed Gretz his second Modified title, Jay Matthias took fourth and James Tebon brought home fifth.

Tony Everard earned his 6th title in the Baby Bomber / Sport Compact division. Adam Broehm was victorious for the second time this season. Broehm was trailed the checkers by David Cox, Tony Everard, Scott Schlafke and James Riske.
