Pioneers, Clippers fight for first place at Algoma meet; other area results

Four different area teams were represented at the Algoma Cross Country Meet on Tuesday when Algoma, Sevastopol, Sturgeon Bay, and Southern Door showed up. The Sevastopol and Sturgeon Bay girls cross country teams shined at the Algoma meet on Tuesday as the Pioneers took home the gold and Sturgeon Bay closely followed. Eight of the top ten place winners were either a Pioneer or a Clipper. Sevastopol’s Bea Dramm came in first place, Julia Kurek got second place for Sturgeon Bay, and Jolene Luedtke came in third place for Sevastopol. 

 

Also placing high in the girls division for Sturgeon Bay was Mikayla LaLuzerne in fifth place, Sanya Wienke in sixth, and Maggie Stephens came in eighth. Also among the first ten to finish for Sevastopol was Rachel Wilke who got seventh and Libby Ash who got tenth. Sevastopol’s Dasha Yeltysheva and Sturgeon Bay’s Jade Tomberlin also worked their way into the top twenty placers. 

 

In the boys division, Ben Grota got the silver medal for Southern Door. As a team, Southern Door placed sixth and Sturgeon Bay placed third. Tristen Billa got fifth place for Sturgeon Bay and Lucas Conard made it into the top ten with a ninth place finish. For the Clippers, Bennett Johnson, Tre Wienke, and Jace Johnson placed in the top twenty.
