Brewers fall to Cardinals, St. Louis wins 17th in-a-row and clinches playoff

The St. Louis Cardinals won for the 17th consecutive time and clinched a playoff berth Tuesday night as they defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 6-2 at Busch Stadium.

The Brewers already clinched the Central Division on Sunday and now have a 94-63 record.

Starter Adam Wainwright (17-7) gave up just two earned runs in six innings to pick up the win for St. Louis while Brandon Woodruff pitched only four innings and gave up two runs.  Jandel Gustave (1-1) took the loss in relief for the Brewers.

The only runs for the Brewers came on a two-run home run by Luis Urius in the fourth inning.  It was Urius' 22nd home run of the season.

Milwaukee and St. Louis will play the second game of the series Wednesday with first pitch set for 6:45 pm.
