Coaches helping out on transportation

Coaches are taking it upon themselves to get their kids to games amidst a country-wide bus driver shortage.

Last month, Algoma School District highlighted the addition of Dean Blahnik to its transportation staff. Blahnik has been instrumental to the success of Algoma's field events as they have had several medalists in recent years. You can now add "bus driver" to his list of duties.

“There was a need, and I want to do what I can for our youth and our school district. I wanted to be part of the solution,” said Blahnik in the district's social media post.

Earlier this fall, several school districts in northeast Wisconsin said they needed to reschedule or outright cancel sporting events due to the lack of available drivers.
