The Oconto Blue Devils may have won the Packerland Conference Tournament on Saturday, but that does not mean there were not plenty of impressive performances by volleyball teams representing Door and Kewaunee counties.
Sevastopol was the top local team in the tournament, finishing in second place after forcing the Blue Devils to go the distance before falling 18-16 in the match's final set. The Pioneers had defeated Algoma and Peshtigo prior to that match.
Southern Door's Anna Olson reached a major milestone during the tournament as she recorded her 1000th career dig.
Several area volleyball teams will begin their route to state on Tuesday. Sturgeon Bay will travel to Freedom, Gibraltar visits Oakfield, Kewaunee drives down to Sheboygan Lutheran, and Southern Door hosts Algoma. All matches begin at 7 p.m. Luxemburg-Casco and Sevastopol have byes until later this week.
