Spartans volleyball cruises past Reedsburg to state final vs. McFarland on 104.1 WRLU

The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans will play in their fourth state volleyball final in five years after sweeping Reedsburg in straight sets Friday afternoon at the Resch Center.

 

The Spartans took advantage of a Beavers squad getting used to the bright lights of the Resch Center and the state semi-finals, jumping out to a 9-2 lead before capturing the set 25-12.

The  Spartans would get out to another fast start in the second set, only to see the Beavers show some real grit to narrow the lead to 11-9. The Spartans would then go on to score eight of the next nine points to take control of the set, eventually winning it 25-15.

The Beavers would not go away quietly as the two teams traded points early on. the two teams would later trade four point runs before the Spartans took 10 of the final 15 points. The match was clinched on a service error after the Beavers began to nibble away at the Spartans' advantage.

Leading the way for the Spartans was Autumn Flynn (12 kills) Grace Holschuh (10 kills, 22 digs), and Emma Johnson (30 assists).

 

The Spartans' next opponent is McFarland, who beat Pewaukee in the other Division 2 state semifinal 25-16, 25-23, 21-25, 25-23.  It is a rematch of the 2019 state final that saw the Spartans win their first-ever state championship in volleyball, winning it 25-21, 25-17, 25-23. 

 

Tyler Thrune and Paul Schmitt will have the call on 104.1 WRLU and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com beginning at 2 p.m. with the pre-match show followed by the first serve at 2:30 p.m.
