Winter sports begin in earnest Monday; first girls' basketball games Tuesday

It only took two minutes and 14 seconds to officially close the book on the fall sports season and to officially start the winter season for all high school sports.

That was how long it took Door County United's Christy Braun to finish her swim in the 200 individual medley to register to secure the spot as the 25th fastest swimmer in the event in Wisconsin.

Monday marked the first day of practice for boys' basketball, wrestling,  and boys' swimming and diving. Girls' basketball had a week headstart on every one else and could have started games on Monday. The area's teams decided to take an extra day to practice before some of them start non-conference play on Tuesday. Those games include Luxemburg-Casco hosting Kewaunee, Southern Door playing at home against Shiocton, and Algoma welcoming Ashwaubenon. NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com will have full previews of those matchups on Tuesday.
