Phoenix men head to tournament, women begin league play

The Green Bay Phoenix basketball teams will begin busy weekends Thursday as their regular seasons hit their second week.

The Phoenix men are in St. Petersburg, Fla. for the weekend as they participate in the Jersey Mike's Classic. They look for their first win of the season after losing a close game to Indiana State in the opener and getting routed by Wisconsin last Friday. They open tournament play against UNC-Greensboro at 2 p.m. The Spartans have opened their season 3-0 including their victory over the Horizon League's Northern Kentucky. The Phoenix are also scheduled to play Florida International on Friday and Weber State on Sunday.

The Phoenix women will have their first Horizon League home weekend of the season as they start first with Northern Kentucky. They bounced back from a season-opening rout by South Dakota State with an impressive performance over North Dakota State. The Norse visit the Kress Center after splitting their games with Kent State and Eastern Kentucky. Opening tip is set for 7 p.m.
