Basketball notes: Badgers upset Purdue

The Wisconsin Badgers scored one of the big upsets early in the Big Ten Conference slate Monday when they beat Purdue 74-69.

 

Beating the third-ranked team in the country on the road for any team, let alone one who had its full team for the first time in approximately a month. The back and forth contest ended in the final minutes of the game when the Badgers outscored the Boilermakers 10-1 to build its lead. Johnny Davis scored 37 points and added another 14 rebounds in the victory for the Badgers while Brad Davison pitched in another 15 points in the win.

 

In the NBA, a late rally by the Detroit Pistons helped them snap a pair of winning streaks for the Milwaukee Bucks. The Bucks were outscored by 12 points in the second half to lose 115-106. Giannis Antetokounmpo led the Bucks with 31 points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists. Jrue Holiday scored 29 while Bobby Portis pitched in 12 points and 14 rebounds. The difference in the game for the Pistons was Saddiq Bell, who scored a game-high 34 points. The loss snapped a six-game winning streak on the season and a 12 game winning streak against the Pistons. They are back in action on Wednesday when they host the Toronto Raptors.
