The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans battled but could not overcome a hot-shooting Fox Valley Lutheran Foxes team Friday night in Luxemburg, falling 76-44. Josiah Butler showed why he is considered one of the best players in the state, scoring 18 of his game-high 23 points in the first half.
The Foxes controlled the tempo of the game and took a 16 point lead into halftime with a 37-21 score. The Foxes burned the Spartan 1-3-1 defense by hitting nine of their 15 three-pointers in the first half.
Peyton Mrotek led the Spartans with 13 points and Jack Rollin and Owen Deprez added 8 points each, but it was not enough to take down the NEC leading, undefeated Foxes (10-0, 13-2 overall).
Luxemburg-Casco (4-6, 6-8 overall) will now play at Marinette on Monday.
The next radio broadcast will be on Monday, January 31 when the Spartans host the Southern Door Eagles in a non-conference matchup. Matt Piesler and Paul Schmitt will have the call with the pregame set for 6:30 pm on 96.7 FM WBDK and tip off shortly after 7 pm from Luxemburg-Casco High School. The game will also be streamed on New Radio Sports Network.
