Mastodons stomp past Phoenix men in second half, women host Milwaukee

The Green Bay Phoenix men's basketball team kept it close through one half but saw IPFW coast in the second half to a 71-55 victory Sunday afternoon.

The Phoenix built a five-point lead before a 17-8 run by the Mastodons flipped the script to go heading into the second half. The Mastodons could never extend their lead much past 12 points in the second half, but the Phoenix could never get their deficit into the single digits as they lost their 10th straight road game. Cade Meyer registered 13 points and Manny Ansong chipped in 10. Southern Door product Ryan Claflin had his first start of the season, finishing with eight points, three assists, and two rebounds in a team-high 35 minutes.

The Phoenix women will play the first of two make-up games against Milwaukee Monday night at the Kress Center. Their first attempts at games were postponed due to COVID issues within the Panthers program. The Phoenix are coming off a two-game sweep of their weekend games against Youngstown State and Robert Morris. A 25-0 run propelled the Phoenix to 57-41 win over Robert Morris on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers were nipped by the Penguins of Youngstown State 60-56 over the weekend after outscoring the Colonials by 20 in their first game of the weekend. Monday's game is set for 7 p.m.
