Algoma girls holds on to beat Gibraltar on 105.1 The GOAT

The Algoma Wolves and the Gibraltar Vikings traded blows for much of the game on Thursday night in Fish Creek, but it was the visitors that captured the 41-36 victory in a Packerland Conference girls' basketball finale.

Fouls and turnovers made for an uneven pace that saw several ties and lead changes in the early going of the first half. In the final minutes, the Wolves were able to knock down some shots to take an 18-13 lead into the break.

The Wolves kicked off the half with a 6-0 run to start the half and would later turn it into a lead as big as 11 as they were able to get Emily Kirchman going with layups and Halle Panger and Ryley Zimmerman with some outside shots. In the latter stages, the Vikings showed their grit with Andie Schar and Chloe Alexander knocking big three-pointers to get to within a one-possession game with under a minute left. The Wolves hit their free throws at the end to stave off the challenge from the Vikings.

Mikala Gorham led the Vikings with 14 points while Schar added 12 and Alexander chipped in 11 points. Zimmerman led all scorers with 16 points while Kirchman klcked in 12 points and Ella Madden added seven points.
