The Luxemburg-Casco Spartans boys battled hard but could not overcome a determined Seymour team, falling to the Thunder 63-51 Saturday night in Seymour in non-conference action.
The first half saw numerous lead changes as neither team could take more than a three-point lead, as Seymour went into intermission with a 26-23 advantage.
Thunder's Gunar Weyer started fast in the second half hitting two quick three-pointers and the Thunder increase their lead to nine points early in the second half.
The Spartans were able to claw back into the game thanks to Peyton Mrotek scoring 18 of his team-high 20 points in the second half.
Luxemburg-Casco closed within four points late, but Seymour clinched the game at the free throw line and by forcing several Spartan turnovers at the end.
Weyer finished with a game-high 26 points and Pace Jefferson added 16 more to pace the Thunder (12-11).
The Spartans (8-9 in NEC, 11-12 overall) will now play Thursday night in Waupaca to finish out the regular season and await the pairings for the WIAA Division 2 State Tournament that will be released on Sunday.
