Phoenix sweep regular season finales

Both Green Bay Phoenix basketball teams won their finales Saturday afternoon.

The women withstood a furious rally by Cleveland State to win 66-64. A 13-0 run by the Vikings nearly derailed the Phoenix's chances at holding the #3 seed in the Horizon League Tournament. The Phoenix were buoyed by their defensive prowess, scoring 25 points on 19 Vikings turnovers. Hailey Oskey led the way with 26 points while Luxemburg-Casco product Cassie Schiltz added 13 in the victory. They will host a quarterfinal game on Thursday.

The men took advantage of an undermanned IUPUI squad to win 67-41. The Jaguars took an early 8-0 lead only for the Phoenix to respond with a 15-0 run of their own. The Phoenix ended the half with a 32-16. On the opposite bench, an injury left the Jaguars with just five players dressed. One even had their shoe blow out, leading to a Jaguars fan loaning his shoes for the duration of the contest. Kamari McGee (13 pts), Manny Ansong (12 pts), and Cade Meyer (10 pts) all reached double figures in the victory. The Phoenix will head to Youngstown State for their first round matchup on Tuesday.
