The #6 seeded Luxemburg-Casco Spartans hung on and defeated the #10 Marinette Marines 58-48 in a WIAA Division 2 regional quarterfinal in Luxemburg.
The game started out slowly for both teams as Marinette scored the first two baskets and held a 4-2 after five minutes of play. After the score was tied at 12-12, the Spartans went on a 14-2 run to build a 26-14 lead at the 3:30 mark and closed out the half with a 30-18 lead.
Taking control early in the second half, Luxemburg-Casco opened with a 13-2 run to take a 43-20 advantage. Marinette made a run to close the game within seven points in the final minutes but could not get any closer.Peyton Mrotek led the Spartans with 26 points and hit 10/13 free throws to help put the game away at the free-throw line. Owen Deprez added 13 points while Evan Dahlke hit three three-pointers and finished with 11 points.
Jake Sommerfeldt scored 17 points for Marinette with all of them coming in the second half.
The Spartans (13-12) will now travel to West DePere on Friday night to face the #3 Phantoms in a regional semi-final.
