Southern Door battles Denmark on 103.3 The Clipper

The Southern Door Eagles boys' basketball team look to advance to a second straight regional title game Friday night when they host the Denmark Vikings.

The Eagles were given a scare by the visiting New Holstein Huskies but were able to pull away late in the second half to win 61-52 in the first round of the WIAA Division 3 Playoffs Tuesday night. Drew Daoust scored 26 points to lead the Eagles while Nic Pierre added 16 and Taylor Schaefer chipped in 10 in the victory. The Vikings earned their spot with a 78-38 thrashing of Two Rivers in their opening-round matchup. UWGB recruit Donovan Short leads the Vikings with 23.5 points and 8.6 rebounds a game while Hayden Konkol serves as a great complement as he averages 16.2 ppg and 5.2 rpg. Konkol is also second on the team in assists with just over two a game.

Short and Konkol combined for 46 points in the team's earlier matchup on November 30th when the Vikings won 72-63. The loss occurred at Denmark's tournament and was a part of the Eagles' season-opening four-game losing streak. Four players scored in double figures in the game, led by the since-departed Logan Jeanquart and Nic Pierre's 13 points. A win for the Eagles would not just send them to their second straight regional title game but also break a three-game losing streak to the Vikings.

Tim Kowols and Jacob Nate will have the call on 103.3 The Clipper and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com beginning at 6:30 p.m. followed by the opening tip at 7 p.m.

Other games occurring Friday night involving local teams include Gibraltar traveling to Goodman/Pembine on 105.1 The GOAT, Luxemburg-Casco visiting West DePere on 96.7 WBDK, and Kewaunee making its way to Campbellsport. All games begin at 7 p.m.
