Gibraltar's season ends against Randolph on 105.1 The GOAT

A state-record performance by Sam Grieger led Randolph past Gibraltar in their trip to state Friday morning with a 61-28 victory at the Kohl Center.

The two teams traded scores early in the contest with Trevor Ash's slam dunk providing a jolt of energy to the 1,000-plus blue and gold clad fans. A two-point bucket by Will Friedenfels ended being the last basket of the half for the Vikings as the Rockets would go on a 21-0 run over the final 10-plus minutes to enter halftime up 34-10.

The Vikings' offense would loosen up to start the second half as Braeden Sitte pick up some steals early in the half and scored all five of his points after the break. The Rockets would return answered each blow from the phoenix and went on another 10-0 run in the second half that would stretch the lead to as much as 37. Harrison Krauss hit the team's last field goal of the season with a corner three-pointer to cut the Rockets' lead to 59-27 with just over three minutes to go.

Ash led all scorers with six points while Sam Lindenberg and Sitte each had five. The Vikings' defense simply had no answers for Grieger, who hit a number of acrobatic shots to finish the morning off with 41 points. That and his 16 made field goals set Division 5 state tournament records, supplanting former Sheboygan Lutheran and Wisconsin Badgers star Sam Dekker. His teammate, Travis Alvin chipped in 13 points in the victory.

The Vikings finish the season 19-11 with a regional and sectional title to their credit. It was Justin Burress' final game as head coach of the Vikings, leading his teams to two sectional appearances.
