Ian Happ had three hits including a game-winning two-run double late to steal game one of a four-game season-opening set against the Milwaukee Brewers 5-4.
The Brewers struck first as Lorenzo Cain had the first of his two productive outs on the day in the fourth inning. Corbin Burnes was mowing down Cubs until the fifth inning when Patrick Wisdom registered his own RBI out before Nico Hoerner hit a two-run homer to put the Cubs ahead. The Brewers would tie the game up in the seventh inning when Wily Adames hit an RBI double and Christian Yelich drove him in on a sacrifice fly. Happ's third hit of the day proved to be a backbreaker as his RBI double gave the Cubs a lead they would not lose. Cain's sacrifice fly made it one-run closer, but the Brewers could not retake the lead to lose their first game of the season. Burnes had four strikeouts in his five innings of work as the loss was credited to Aaron Ashby.
As they will the rest of the weekend, the two teams meet again at Wrigley Field Friday afternoon for a 1:20 start.
