Former Phoenix McGee chooses Wisconsin

Former Phoenix point guard Kamari McGee will not have to travel far when he transfers from Green Bay this fall.

McGee announced earlier this week that he will play at Wisconsin this fall with three years of eligibility remaining. The Racine native was named to the All-Horizon League Freshman team after starting 21 games for the Phoenix this past season. He played a big role after Lucas Steiber went down with an injury, averaging 11.6 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.9 assists in 29 minutes per game.

The Phoenix has not done much to replace the eight players that left via the transfer portal outside of its recruiting class from the high school level. Last week Zane Short, brother of Denmark standout and Phoenix recruit Donovan Short, announced he would be joining the Phoenix after a couple of seasons at the junior college level. The Phoenix has lost 16 players via the portal the last two season, though 13 of those were originally recruited by Linc Darner. The former Phoenix coach who led the team to a 2016 appearance in the NCAA Tournament, just completed his first year as an assistant coach at Ball State
