Track athletes compete at sectionals with state on the line

Dozens of local athletes have a chance to extend their season with a trip to LaCrosse next weekend with a successful day at the WIAA Track and Field Sectional meets Thursday.

 

Luxemburg-Casco, Kewaunee, Southern Door, and Sturgeon Bay will make their way to Little Chute for one of the Division 2 sectionals. They will be competing against athletes from Amherst, Berlin, Brillion, Chilton, Clintonville, Denmark, Fox Valley Lutheran, Freedom, Kiel, Luxemburg-Casco, Marinette, Menomonee Indian, New Holstein, New London, Notre Dame De La Baie Academy, Oconto Falls, Omro, Oostburg, Peshtigo, Plymouth, Seymour, Sheboygan Falls, Two Rivers, Valders, Waupaca, Wautoma, Westfield, Winneconne, Wrightstown, and Xavier High Schools. Kewaunee's Lisa Reinke (shotput), Ben Heim (triple jump), Luxemburg-Casco's John Larson (hurdles), Taylor Thiry (discus), and Southern Door: Danica Neville (400m) will be among the top-seeded athletes in the sectional after winning their regional earlier this week. 

 

Gibraltar, Sevastopol, and Algoma travel west to Rosholt for their Division 3 sectional meet. Gibraltar's Connor Thompson (Pole Vault) and the girls 4x800m team along with Algoma's Logan Borths (800m, shotput, 400m, and 100m in the wheelchair division) will be among the top-ranked in their events due to their regional championships in Hilbert on Monday. 

 

The first events at both sectional meets take place at 3:30 p.m.
