Institute edges Maplewood in extra innings on 105.1 The Goat

In a game that had numerous lead changes, the Institute Cubs walked off a 9-8 win over the Maplewood Mets on Friday night in Door County League action.

The Mets took a 3-1 in the second inning, only to see the Cubs score three runs in the fourth inning to take a 4-3 on an RBI single by Mark Villers and a sacrifice fly by Zac Marchant.

The Mets broke a 5-5 lead in the sixth inning on an RBI single by Cam Schoeder and then a 7-5 advantage in the seventh inning on a booming home run by Kordell Draves.

The game stayed 7-5 until the bottom of the eighth inning when the Cubs scored three runs to take an 8-7 lead.  Maplewood would score an unearned run in the top of the ninth on a sac fly by Draves to tie the game at 8-8.

The Cubs then walked-off the win in the bottom of the tenth when Ethan Kroll walked and stole second before scoring on an overthrow to first base to give Institute the home win.

Cub's Kyle Ploor was the winning pitcher in relief while Adam Gutschow took the hard-luck loss for the Mets.

The next broadcast on 105.1 The Goat will be Sunday afternoon at one o'clock at Egg Harbor as the Indians host the Sister Bay Bays.  Paul Schmitt and Quinn Struck will  have the call with the pregame at 1:00 pm and first pitch scheduled for 1:30 pm.
