Former Gamblers coach gets NHL job

Another former Green Bay Gamblers coach will be behind the bench as an NHL coach this fall.

Derek Lalonde was named the 28th head coach in Detroit Red Wings after several years assisting another former Green Bay Gamblers head coach and Stanley Cup winner Derek Lalonde. His resume may be just as impressive including his stay in Tampa Bay where the team captured the Stanley Cup and made the final two other times. In addition to head coaching stints at Toledo and Iowa, Lalonde also won a league title with the Green Bay Gamblers the year after Cooper left for the AHL ranks.

Don Granato (Buffalo) is the other head coach in the NHL with Gamblers ties. Lalonde takes over a Red Wings team that went 32-40-10 last year.
