Caratini walks off Cubs

Things got crazy late at American Family Field but the Milwaukee Brewers were able to defeat the Chicago Cubs 5-2 Monday afternoon.

It was a pitching clinic early with the Cubs' Justin Steele and Eric Lauer matching each other with nearly identical stat lines (6+ IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 9 SO). Nelson Velazquez hit his first MLB homer early to get the Cubs on the board while Pedro Severino doubled home Keston Hiura to knot the game at 1-1.

The Cubs would take a short-lived lead in the ninth when a misplayed ball off the wall sent Seiya Suzuki around the bases for an inside-the-park home run. David Robertson would have one of his worst outings of the season, allowing a pair of hits before giving the Brewers the tying run with a hit-by-pitch and a bases-loaded walk. After the Cubs blew a bases-loaded one-out scenario in their half of the 10th inning, it was their former catcher Victor Caratini that delivered the dagger in the bottom half.

The two teams meet again Tuesday night.
