Brewers head to All-Star break on losing note

While there was some good news for Brewers fans on Sunday, it did not come on the diamond as Milwaukee fell to San Francisco for a third straight time Sunday, 9-5.

Things started well as Willy Adames homered in a full count to make 1-0. The Giants however, would go on a 9-0 run, highlighted by a five-run third inning. LaMonte Wade Jr. capped off the fatal inning with a three-run homer. Brandon Belt completed the run with a two-run homer of his own in the sixth inning.

The Brewers would rally in the latter inning, with Hunter Renfroe hitting a two-RBI double in the seventh inning and Rowdy Tellez going yard with a man on in the eighth inning. Aaron Ashby took the loss as manager Craig Counsell tried the opening pitcher strategy with Jason Alexander being the long man. Alexander went five innings, giving up seven runs on eight hits with five strikeouts recorded.

For the good news, Devin Williams got his long-awaited All-Star nod. He and Corbin Burnes headed to Los Angeles for this week's All-Star festivities at Dodger Stadium. The team's other All-Star, Josh Hader, opted out of the game to spend more time with his family.
