Algoma still out of playoff picture as WIAA announces football alignments

There was not much movement among the area's football teams among the WIAA's different divisions, which continues to be bad news for Algoma.

For eight-man football, you must have a three-year enrollment average of less than 200 students to be eligible. Even though the school's declining enrollment did reach 198 heading into this year, they are still averaging 203 students over the last three years. Gibraltar stayed steady at 185, and Sevastopol's enrollment went down compared to their three-year average of 182.

Sturgeon Bay may have had the biggest jump among local schools mostly because they switched back to 11-man football after three years of eight-man. They will play in Division 5 along with Packerland Conference rivals Kewaunee and Southern Door. Division 5 schools had to have an enrollment between 294 and 417, both a couple of ticks below the levels they were at last year.

Luxemburg-Casco will remain at Division 3 as of the smaller schools with an enrollment of 601. Division 3 schools are between 595 and 999 students.
