Clippers football eager for season start

The first stop in official preseason coverage was out to Memorial Field where the talk of the Packerland Conference so far in the preseason held their first official practice. Sturgeon Bay Football is coming off of a 2-6 season full of games that flashed potential, but the record does not matter with the flip to 11-Player Football. That is what has headlined the team so far this offseason, the transfer from the brief stint in 8-Player, back into the Packerland.

A big part of Sturgeon Bay’s offense is back from last season, and Mason Sacotte is set to have a huge part in the success that the Clippers will have. Sacotte, a junior, showed glimpses of what he has the opportunity to show this season, as he broke out in games against Thorp and Belmont last season as both a runner, and a receiving threat. With him appearing to be the Running Back for the Clippers this season after the graduation of senior Braeden Haines, he will have the opportunity to flash the skills that he has under new Head Coach Carl Waterstreet.

Mason seems confident that the team will transfer over well to the 11-Player season this year, and it felt that the whole team had a nice level of confidence in the type of team that they can put together.

David Zuehlke was one of those players that felt that the team has potential that has been waiting to come out. David being a senior has seen it all from the perspective of Sturgeon Bay Football. From not knowing if Sturgeon Bay will have a season in 2020, to moving the season to the spring, and playing 8-Player to switching to 11-Man, but it doesn’t seem to affect him, as he chooses to keep working and knows that everything will work out if he puts the effort in.

Rivalries after all, are what makes sports fun. The opportunity to bring back those rivalries for the players and even Coach Waterstreet is something that they might be the most excited about this season. The Sturgeon Bay players had the feel of confidence that might be what pushes them to have a season that might not be expected of a team that made a switch that most players have not experienced before.
