Football Round-up: L-C on 104.1 WRLU, Sturgeon Bay on The Clipper Friday

The high school football season got underway Thursday and continues with two games featured on the NEW Radio Sports Network.

On Thursday, Kewaunee avenged last year's season-opening loss with a 28-21 win over Kiel.

On Friday, the Luxemburg-Casco Spartans will travel to Waupaca to take on the Comets in a non-conference football game Friday night in the season opener. The pregame is set for 6:45 pm on 104.1 WRLU and kickoff at 7 pm from Waupaca High School.  Paul Schmitt and Tim Kowols will have the play-by-play of the game that will also be streamed on New Radio Sports Network.

The Sturgeon Bay Clippers will return to 11-Player football Friday night, as they will be playing in their first non-8-Player game in three seasons. Waiting for them, will be a matchup with Green Bay West.  Quinn Struck and Gary Barta will be on the call from Memorial Field with the pregame show beginning at 6:45 and kickoff scheduled for 7:00 P.M on 103.3 The Clipper and NEWRadioSportsNetwork.com.

In return to action for the first time since losing two straight weeks to Kewaunee to end their season last year, the Eagles of Southern Door will look to sink the Flying Dutchmen of Oostburg during their week one meeting.

Eight-man football will begin their regular season next week, but that will not keep the area's teams off the field this weekend. Gibraltar travels to St. Mary's for a 1 p.m. scrimmage. Sevastopol and Algoma will take on each other Saturday.

In NFL football, the Green Bay Packers will face the New Orleans Saints for a third time on Friday after hosting them for practices on Tuesday and Wednesday. It will be another showcase for the back-ups when the game begins at 7 p.m.
