Gibraltar welcomes region's cross country teams for Chief K

An end-of-summer tradition continues Thursday afternoon when Gibraltar hosts the Chief Kahquados Invitational.

Algoma, Coleman, Crivitz, De Pere, Denmark, Freedom, Gillett, Hilbert, Kewaunee, Luxemburg-Casco, Mauston, Mishicot, Oconto, Peshtigo, Providence Academy/NEW Lutheran, Reedsville, Roncalli, Sevastopol, Southern Door, Sturgeon Bay, Wausaukee, and Wrightstown will join the Vikings for the series of 5K races that go around Gibraltar's sports complex and inside Peninsula State Park.

De Pere won the boys' race, followed closely by Luxemburg-Casco, with Mauston's Eli Boppart breaking 17 minutes to win the individual title. It was the same story for the girls, with DePere taking the team title and Luxemburg-Casco coming in second place. DePere's Hope Dragseth could go for a repeat after winning with a time of 20:15 last year.
