Southern Door's Strege, L-C boys win Chief K Invite

It was a great day for local runners at the Chief Kahquados Invitational on the campus of Gibraltar on Thursday.

The course was a little different this year than in the past, with runners doing three laps into neighboring Peninsula State Park rather than taking them through the baseball field.

The top team was Luxemburg-Casco, which saw its boys' team win its race while the girls' squad missed it by a single point.

Individually, Southern Door's Brooke Strege finished the 5K distance at just over 21 minutes. The Spartans' Madilyn Bevins finished closely behind for second place. For the boys' the Spartans' Gabe Havel found himself chasing Mauston's Eli Joppart, who won his second straight Chief K title with a time of 16 minutes. Havel came in after at 17:24.

Official result have not been posted as of 6:30 a.m. Friday.
