The Door County Pickleball club is pleased to announce the winners of the
2022 Steve Schmelzer Sportsmanship Award. The Steve Schmelzer Sportsmanship
Award is given to the person(s) that receives the most nominations from
their fellow players for consistently demonstrating the following traits
throughout the 2022 outdoor Pickleball season. Those traits include
kindness, integrity, sportsmanship, encouragement, positive attitude,
teamwork, and inclusiveness.

The co-winners of the Steve Schmelzer Sportsmanship Award for 2022 are Ron
Greisen from Sturgeon Bay and Mark and Patty Weisse from Sister Bay. The
honorable mention awards went to Vicky Gulan, Margaret Gerard, and Bill
Reifsnyder.

The highlights from the nominations for Ron Greisen stated that Ron provides
a friendly and encouraging play environment, he's a jovial player that
people always want to be around and promotes a friendly environment. He's
always smiling and enthusiastic and has the longest running ladder league in
the county. He's one of the most inclusive players and always welcomes new
players regardless of skill level and is also very supportive.

The nominations for Patty and Mark Weisse mentioned that they are gems on
and off the court and have an unwavering positive attitude. Mark and Patty
consistently extend warm welcomes, teachable moments, encouragement, and
compliments to every player they meet, (at all levels of play) on all courts
throughout Door County. Mark and Patty are true ambassadors of the sport.

The Door County Pickleball Club Executive Committee presented the awards to
this week during the 2022 Annual Members gathering at Sunset Park in
Sturgeon Bay.
