Spartans overcome slow start, tame Wolves on 104.1 WRLU

It took a while, but the Luxemburg-Casco Spartans were able to get the offense clicking in the second half en route to a 28-7 victory over the Winneconne Wolves on Friday night.

Both teams were able to register big stops against each other in the first half with each just scoring once. The Wolves got onto the scoreboard first with a 25 yard run from Ethan Mathe to make it 7-0. The Spartans would tie the game in the second quarter on a short touchdown run by Max Ronsman to make it 7-7 heading into the break.

The Spartans would get their eventual game-winning score in the third quarter when Ronsman hit Sawyer Dorn on a post route to make it 13-7. The play of the game may have happened in the fourth quarter. After the Wolves forced the Spartans to turn the ball over on the downs, the Spartans got the ball almost immediately back when they forced quarterback Brady Immel to fumble the ball and a Luxemburg-Casco defender picked it up. A few moments later, Ronsman would find Ryan Routhieaux for the touchdown and with a two-point conversion, made it 21-7. Jacob DeGrave would add an insurance score with a two-yard rushing touchdown to make it 28-7.

The player of the game was Sawyer Dorn, who scored the game-winning score in the third quarter and provided a number of key blocks that set up big gains in the passing game.

The Spartans are back in action next Friday as they travel to Little Chute to face the Mustangs. Paul Schmitt and Reece Robillard will have the call on 104.1 WRLU with the pregame show at 6:45 p.m. and the kickoff at 7 p.m.
