Max Scherzer left Monday's game perfect through six before departing in a 7-2 New York Mets victory over the Milwaukee Brewers.
The former Cy Young struck out nine Brewers batters in his return to the roster before being lifted in the seventh inning due to pitch count concerns. A Pete Alonso homer in the fourth and RBI hits by Francisco Lindor and Daniel Vogelbach in the sixth made it 5-0 Mets before Rowdy Tellez sent a song into orbit to get the Brewers on the board in the seventh. It take didn't take long for the Mets to match the runs gained with two RBI singles in the top of the eighth inning.
The two teams battle Tuesday night again at 6:40 p.m.
