Bret Bielema's homecoming to Madison went well for his new squad as the Illinois Fighting Illini throttled the Wisconsin Badgers 34-10.
The first touchdown scored by Isaac Guerendo on a pass from Graham Mertz proved to be the lone highlight of the game. The Badgers would take a small 10-7 lead at the beginning of the second quarter, but it was all Illini after that as Tommy Devito scored touchdowns on three close quarterback keepers and Chase Brown scored from 49 yards out to put the game out of reach.
It was a rarity for the Badgers where the Illini outgained the Badgers on the ground 137-2. Mertz threw 206 yards and a touchdown, but two interceptions proved costly.
They will travel to Evanston next Saturday to face a struggling Northwestern squad at 2:30 p.m.
