Players, Coaches, and Fans from around the state of Wisconsin were up early with their eyes glued to the television as the WIAA playoff brackets were revealed at 10:00 this morning on Bally Sports Wisconsin.
5 local teams made it into their respective division’s playoff bracket. 3 teams found themselves in Division 5, with those teams being Kewaunee, Sturgeon Bay, and Southern Door. Luxemburg Casco found themselves in Division 3, and Gibraltar made the 8 Man playoffs.
Kewaunee found themselves with a second seed in the playoffs, as they will host a familiar foe, as they take on the seventh seed Sturgeon Bay Clippers. The two teams matched up against each other three weeks ago at Memorial Field, with the Storm winning that matchup 55-14. The Clippers will look to turn those tides, and play upset in the first round of the WIAA playoffs.
Luxemburg Casco was the team that was in most danger of missing the playoffs, but landed on a 4 seed, and a home playoff game for the first round against the Fox Valley Lutheran Foxes. Those two teams matched up two weeks ago, with the Spartans walking away with a 16-14 win in that game.
Gibraltar finished their season undefeated, beating the Sevastopol Pioneers 47-0 last night. That win was enough to secure a one seed in the WIAA 8 Man playoffs. The Vikings however, will not have an easy test, as they drew the four seed Lena/St Thomas Aquinas for the first round. Those two teams matched up three weeks ago, with the Vikings walking away with a road victory, 54-50. This time the matchup will be in Gibraltar, and set for a good one.
Southern Door was able to land the one seed they were looking for, after a 41-0 win over the Sturgeon Bay Clippers last night. The Eagles drew eight seeded Brillion, as the Lions are 3-6 on the year, but 3-4 in their respective conference. The Eagles will have home field advantage throughout the playoffs, until the neutral field sites begin.
