The Green Bay Phoenix men's team got all they could handle from a non-Division I team for the second straight week on Thursday, this time a 72-66 victory over Michigan Tech.
The Phoenix built up a double-digit lead through the first half, entering the second half with a 33-23 lead. That was thanks in part to another strong performance from Cade Meyer, who led the Phoenix with 22 points in the game.
Free throw shooting began to betray the Phoenix in the final minutes of the second half, with the Huskies narrowing the advantage to four points. The Phoenix were 13-25 from behind the charity stripe. Marcus Tomashek scored 21 points to lead the Huskies.
Ready or not after winning their two exhibition games over St. Norbert's and Michigan Tech by a combined 11 points, the Phoenix open their 2022-2023 campaign at Indiana State on Monday.
The Phoenix women open their season on Monday as well on the road as they face Drake.
